Quick answer: Dedicated servers at Cloud2Y may be used for any lawful workload. Prohibited: spam and unsolicited mail, network attacks (DDoS, scanning, brute-force), phishing and malware distribution/hosting, illegal content, and abuse that harms other networks. Violations lead to warnings, suspension or termination depending on severity — see the general Acceptable Use Policy.
Overview
Full hardware control does not change the rules of the network the server lives in. The AUP protects all customers: abuse from one machine can damage IP reputation, trigger blacklisting of ranges and degrade the network for neighbours. This page summarizes how the policy applies specifically to dedicated servers; the authoritative text is the policy itself.
What is allowed
- Websites, applications, databases, game and voice servers.
- Virtualization — running your own VMs for your projects or clients (each VM must also comply).
- Backup and storage systems, VPNs for your own/company use, development and CI infrastructure.
- Mail servers for legitimate, opt-in mail with proper SPF/DKIM/PTR setup.
What is prohibited
- Sending spam or operating open relays/proxies.
- Attacks of any kind: DDoS, port scanning of third parties, brute-forcing, exploit hosting.
- Phishing pages, malware command-and-control, botnet infrastructure.
- Content illegal in the applicable jurisdictions.
- Deliberate evasion of abuse handling (fast-flux, bulletproof-hosting patterns).
Your responsibilities as owner
- Keep the server secured — a hacked machine that attacks others is still your responsibility to fix.
- React to abuse notifications from Cloud2Y within the stated deadline.
- If you resell capacity (VMs, hosting), ensure your customers comply — the contract is with you.
Common issues
- Compromised server sending spam: not a policy violation by intent, but you must clean it up promptly once notified.
- "It's just a stress-test": load-testing targets you do not own or have written authorization for is an attack.
- Reselling without controls: you are answerable for your sub-customers' traffic.
When to contact support
Contact support before deploying edge cases (public VPN/proxy services, mail platforms, security research), if you received an abuse notice and need clarification, or to report abuse targeting your server.
Frequently asked questions
Can I run my own VMs and resell them?
Yes — virtualization and reselling capacity are allowed on dedicated servers. You remain responsible for your customers, so their workloads must also comply with the policy.
Are mail servers allowed?
Yes, mail servers are allowed for legitimate opt-in mail with proper SPF, DKIM and PTR configuration. Sending spam leads to suspension under the acceptable use policy.
What happens if my server is hacked and abused?
Cloud2Y notifies you and you must clean the server up promptly. Ignoring abuse notifications leads to suspension, even when the abuse was not intentional on your part.
